NGALA is a contemporary African art space whose purpose is to showcase and promote contemporary African culture in Switzerland.
NGALA is a platform for exhibitions, artistic and cultural collaborations and art residencies to cultivate appreciation and growth of African artistic creativity in the heart of Europe. The art space hosts trans-disciplinary events ranging from exhibitions, art talks to concerts and African design and fashion. Located at the foot of Rietberg museum in Zurich, NGALA expands over an area of 300 sqm which includes a permanent collection, exhibition space, and a cafe library.
In 2006, Galerie Le Sud opened its door to the public showcasing contemporary art from Africa and its diaspora. For 15 years the gallery hosted over 70 exhibitions fostering and promoting African creativity in Switzerland. Founded by Ted Gueller, Galerie Le Sud grew throughout its continuos exhibitions and fair attendance. The growing African art scene inspired Gueller to start collecting, which led to Ngala Contemporary African Art Space which hosts the collection.
